One of the things that has been a huge help on my fitness journey is finding great tasting low calorie meals that fill me up. I must admit that if you have not started your fitness journey, some of these portions may sound ridiculous but trust me, your body needs so much less than your mind wants!
The goal is to find that sweet spot where your body is getting just enough food to meet its needs… Not too little that it goes into starvation mode and not too much that you end up gaining weight. So today I put together some great tasting breakfast ideas. Honestly, I love low calorie breakfasts so I have more calories available for the rest of the day:)
Note that the calories are estimates and would depend on the actual brand you use and the serving size. Also I eat about 1300 calories a day… So it makes sense to make proportional portion adjustments if your calorie goal is higher than mine.
1) My very favorite- A cup of cornflakes and half a cup of almond milk -130 delicious calories. It was a journey getting here. I used to eat all types of fun cereals until I realized that most of them had more calories in ¾ cup than my cornflakes did in a cup. And I love corn flakes. I also used to use 2% milk, until I tasted the rich goodness of almond milk and discovered it only had half the calories! It was a process. Please note that when I loose nutrients due to calories, like the proteins I loosed from switching to almond milk, I am conscious to make it up in other meals.
2) Oatmeal!- Throw in aa teaspoon of honey or so, may be some fruits and you have a great tasting breakfast. The calories here will vary depending on what fruits you use and the type of oatmeal. But 0.5 cups of oatmeal- 73 calories, half a banana -55 calories, ½ tablespoon of honey-30. Adds up to 150 calories!
3) Cheese sandwich- You can use wheat bread or white but I love this cause it takes 5 minutes and tastes awesome! Toast 2 slices of bread, grab a slice of kraft singles cheese and throw it in the middle! It doesn’t get easier than that. Well may be cereal. Haha. If you wanted to, you can sparingly add some butter. But I personally find that I don’t miss the butter when it’s not there. This gives you a great breakfast for 180 calories! Sometimes I add in 2 cups of lettuce and ¼ cup of baked beans for a 275 calorie breakfast.
4) Turkey sandwich- Its amazing that 1oz of sliced turkey breast can be only 30 calories! throw that on some lightly buttered toasted bread and makes for a great 170 calorie sandwich
5) Bagels… I struggle with this on. Used to love bagels until I found that one plain bagel was 300 calories. I personally realized that my sliced bread was more worth it for me. But if you prefer bagels, add some cream cheese and go to town on it 🙂 This could fetch you about 370 calories
6) Yogurt- I love yogurt! You can get a Yoplait 5.3oz greek yogurt for 140 calories! and they are delicious! Pair it with a fruit, say an apple(80) or banana(110) and it’s a great way to start your day. Watch out for sugar content on yogurt in general though
7) Pancakes and eggs- Scrambled eggs(100 calories) or boiled eggs (70 calories) with 2 homemade pancakes(171) can fetch you a very filling 241-271 calorie breakfast
The point is this, you can eat what you want if you just pay attention to the serving sizes and determine how many calories you are willing to spend on that meal. These are my preferences and are based on what I enjoy eating. What do you like eating? Have any cool low calorie breakfasts I should try? Would love to hear them! Thanks for stopping by… remember lifestyle change not crash diet! Have a lovely day
Yummy and nutritious! We always have pancakes and eggs for breakfast as it’s healthy for my family. We also have fresh fruit smoothies to start our day right.
