Trading Garbage Cans

As I sat there, plate in hand, full and struggling to put another fork of food in my mouth, I thought “waste not, want not” and smiled. See, growing up that was one of Mum’s favorite sayings. Well, before the food made it to your plate, it was “Food is not your master” but once you served it, there was no going back “Waste not, want not”. Still don’t know how that makes any literal sense, but it simply meant finish your food! Lol

I knew it was horrible to waste food but as I built my fitness lifestyle, my thought process changed. I realized my body didn’t need as much as I had given it in the past, and that the “full” feeling was actually my body telling me that I had overdone it. So as I sat there uncomfortable trying to finish my food, I knew I had a choice to make: keep it for later, trash it or eat it.

The challenge is that many times, we don’t want to keep it for later because secretly we know we’ll never get back to it or it’s not enough to keep for later. And trashing it would be easier but how dare you waste food?!? So we consider the next best option… eat it. But truth is, at that point you are just trading one garbage can for another; but this one- your body, seriously pays for it.

What we don’t realize is how much additional work the body has to do to digest the food it doesn’t even need. It’s like going to your job for a few hours, and not getting paid for it. Effort in, nothing out and even worse, the excess gets stored in places we’d like to pretend weren’t there. Haha.

So I don’t treat my body like another garbage can. I do my best to pre-portion my food or save it for later and I will pick the garbage can before I force it through my system. Your body is so amazing… This week, challenge yourself to treat your body with respect and watch it take care of you in return. Have a lovely day! Ugh it’s Monday. Lol
