Fruit Loops

Mum had gotten into town the night before and I was oh so excited to have her around. So we are in the car headed out when Mum goes “Moren, I have been so good! Like yesterday for breakfast, I only had some fruits. At the hotel, They had eggs, bagels and  all that stuff but I shut my eyes to them. You know what? We should stop by the store and get some more fruits for your house” You could just hear how proud she was.

I responded “That’s awesome mum. How much fruits did you have”… “Well, maybe a couple apples, a banana and an orange”… I smiled “Mum, do you know each apple has about 80 calories in it? A banana has 110 calories, and an orange is at like 80… So for breakfast you had about 350 calories. That’s could get you a nice plate of eggs and toast. Haha”

Her jaw dropped “What???!, you are kidding me! I could have had eggs instead? Even at home, I have a huge bowl of fruits and I feel I have done something right” I laughed and continued “Fruits are awesome, but you need to understand what you’re getting from them and how much. And other foods are just as important as fruits because they bring different nutritional benefits to the table. Understanding the big picture helps you make actual healthy decisions as opposed to making decisions that just sound healthy”

On our way back home, I stopped at the store to buy some more fruits like she had asked for earlier. “Uhhh Moren, now that I know I can actually eat other foods, the fruits at home are enough” We both burst out laughing as we drove home.

Moren, I noticed that when I have eggs for breakfast, I feel full till lunch, and when I eat fruits for same, I crash before lunch. Your mom is looking younger, this is how you’ll look when you get to her age. My love to her. Cheerios.

Oh my! I apologize for the oh so late response. Just seeing this. How are you doing?! You are right, I always recommend picking meals that make the most sense for you. Good choices, but ones that give you the proper nutritional values and keep you full longer. Thanks for the compliment on my mum, will pas it on… I pray everyday o, that it’s in the genes. Haha. Thanks so much for visiting the blog. Have a wonderful day
