I remember the when hubby and I were about to move in together. We were super excited. Finally no long distance! I remember saying to him “Omg, we can get together and grab some lunch” And he was like “Whaaat… we can go see a movie every night if we wanted!” Sounds so ridiculous but after 1.5yrs of a long distance relationship, we were stoked about the most ordinary things. Haha
Then we started merging our stuff and getting rid of doubles, one of which was our vacuum cleaners. I had a super nice one: heavy, loud and just amazing while hubby had this tiny, compact, $3 looking toy of a vacuum. Haha. It was obvious to me which one to keep but for some reason we kept both. 4 years later, here I am online trying to hunt down the brand and model of that silly vacuum so I could get a second one for the house. Turns out I had underestimated that bad boy and it was the best thing ever!
The funny thing is we underestimate our bodies the same way too often. Your body is capable of so much, including giving you the results you want but you must follow the manual. Picture this: If you run your vacuum over a dirty carpet, it would come out clean right? But what if you had a pile of laundry and ran your vacuum over that? What results would you be expecting? Clean laundry? Or a clean floor? More like some messed up clothes right?
Most people treat their bodies like vacuums over piles of laundry, then get mad that the floor is not clean *Side eye*. Truth is if you eat way too much, your body can’t handle it and you will pay for it somehow- bloated, uncomfortable, over-weight etc. And too much is different for every individual so you have to focus on what works for you and your own body.
I hear people so often say “I want to lose weight, but I like food”. Me too! See, it is actually just as important that you eat enough and really, you should enjoy the things you choose to eat…
BUT you just don’t need to eat EVERYTHING right NOW.
Soo…You want rice? Pounded yam? Mashed potatoes? Go for it… Red velvet cake, Pepper soup, chicken… Sure! It’s not about getting rid foods you enjoy; it’s about understanding what your body needs, how it processes it and being conscious of that.
So I challenge you today in your fitness journey, take a step back and learn your body. Figure out the food your body needs and how much. Get the most use out of it, by setting it up for success. Don’t go running your body over piles of laundry 😉
