Positive

I’ve spent the so much of my time obsessing about the fact that we really do have complete control of our bodies. It’s so amazing how this sophisticated piece of machinery has the simplest principles that it follows. I have absolutely enjoyed helping so many on their fitness journeys and hearing their excitement and fulfillment in seeing great results. So that day when I saw the word “Positive” I didn’t see it coming.

Hubby and I got married in April about 2 years ago and as our anniversary rolled in this year, I could barely believe that much time had already gone by. We were engaged for a year before and in that time I had moved down from Ohio and switched to a new industry. We bought a new house, cars, and I was adjusting to being in a new city and finally being in the same space with my Mr. Right. It was so exciting, so much change but it was a lot. Our wedding and honeymoon were the much needed break… Perfection and literally one of the best times of my life

By the time we got back home, we were ready for nothing. The idea that there was no big change in the horizon was just dreamy… stability was sweet. But you know Nigerians, from the wedding day, the questions and prayers started rolling “By God’s grace, we’ll be here to celebrate you in 9 months” “Ah, when’s the baby coming?” It didn’t take long before hubby and I mastered the “Smile and nod”… You know, whatever they say, just give them a polite smile and nod and throw in an “In Gods time” haha.

So when I saw the words “positive” I didn’t see it coming. I mean, I was finally ready for it but I totally freaked out. Baby? Is this real? Just like that??  Lol. I wrapped the test in a little gift box, and could barely wait 2 seconds as hubby walked through the door to hand it to him. He was super confused. His birthday had just passed so what gift was this?

He unwrapped it as he gave me a weird look like “What are you doing?” It didn’t help that I had a dumb look on my face cause I wasn’t sure what his reaction would be. It was funny the different scenarios I pictured…  I imagined he would go “Holy crap!!!! My life is overrrrr!!”… or what if the ground just opened and he sank into it. Each thought was funnier than the last as I entertained myself waiting for him to figure out what was in the box.

When he saw it, he’s eyes damn near popped out of his face “You’re lying!!!”  We both burst out laughing. He went to the side of the bed, knelt down and put his head down as if to gather his thoughts. You could tell he was having his little freak out moment like I had too. So I just watched with a huge nervous smile. Then he got up, gave me the biggest hug and said “We are going to be so great, Are you happy?”…  The water works started for me as I nodded yes… he said “Me too”. Eventually, we wound up sitting on the floor against the wall in Amazement; talking and thanking God for this amazing gift.

Truth is at this point I couldn’t have known any less about pregnancy. I knew 0 about what to expect. I pictured this graceful period with a cute baby bump and the birds singing. Ha! Was I in for a surprise or was I in for a surprise? Lol . So I figured it would be super fun to share this journey with you guys and talk about health and fitness through different seasons in life.
