Late that evening, hubby and I were on our way home as we started one of our “How are we doing” conversations. We spend a lot of time talking about our goals, how far we’ve come and brainstorming next steps. I was really into the conversation when somehow hubby wondered into how great things were going with us… I wish I could remember what he was really talking about or the context but these are the words I remember hearing “… And you are so much hotter now than even when we met”
As soon as those words landed on my ears, I got so upset. Thoughts just started running through my head… Did he really just say I was unattractive? I was so hot when you met me! What?? YOU were mesmerized by all that hotness” Don’t judge me, I had to hype myself up. Haha A million thoughts flowed through when I finally found a way to muster “What exactly do you mean by that”. From his facial expression I could tell my thoughts were clearly written all over my face and he seemed confused by what he said wrong or why I seemed to be getting upset.
The confusion on his face suddenly made it click… Oh that was a compliment! Apparently, to him, getting fit had made an older me even more attractive than when we first met. At the beginning of the conversation, I had completely forgotten all I had put into my fitness journey and as I thought through it a smile swept across my face. I’m sure dude thought I was bi-polar as this aha moment happened so quickly. Lol. I played it off and we continued with our conversation like nothing happened.
See, when I started my fitness journey, my appearance was barely a factor. All I really wanted was to feel better and get fit. I wanted to do basic things without panting and I wanted to generally improve my health. The beauty of approaching fitness from a holistic perspective is that everything else falls into place. The body is so giving in the sense that if you care for it, it will take care of the other things; From having a great body, to having great skin and everything else in between. You really get this one body for a lifetime, caring for it is simple if you would just invest your efforts correctly. Do your part and your body will come through for you. No excuses, let’s do this!
