Guess She’s Happy Being Fat

Right in the middle of the sermon on Sunday service, my phone went off. As you can imagine, I freaked out, frantically reaching to stop it from ringing. As I looked at the number, I recognized it and knew it was the good news I was expecting… With a big smile on my face, I sent a text to let him know I would call him back, reached for my baby and stepped out of church.

I couldn’t walk fast enough. The door was barely open when I started dialing his number. The second he picked up I screamed “Is the baby here yet?!?!” My brother excitedly responded “Yup!” My new nephew had arrived and I could not be happier. I had a million questions… “How are mum and baby? Everything went well in delivery? What did the baby weigh??” As he tried to answer all my questions, I listened with excitement and paid attention to every detail.

At some point, I looked up and I caught the attention of a friend from church. She could tell I was on the phone but wanted to talk. So then she mouths “How tall are you?” I was confused. Half trying to listen to the phone conversation, half trying to figure the point of the question I responded 5’ 8. She laughed and said “I saw your post about you being 140lbs now, I am 8 months pregnant and 150lbs so I thought to myself I guess she’s happy being fat”

Wait what??? Did she just call me fat? I signaled to her that I was on the phone. Still Aww-ing and Ahh-ing, I focused on details of my nephew. When I got off the phone I saw her a few steps away so I went up to her “Hey, what where you saying again? I was on the phone, not sure I understood”

She laughed and goes “Oh, I am 5’4. When I saw your Instagram post, in my mind we were the same height so I figured, if you were happy at that weight, I could be too. Lol. But clearly you are much taller than me and in person you look skinny”…. Ohhhh so no cause for alarm, I smiled and kept calm. lol I told her that the goal was not to be skinny but that indeed height does make a huge difference to how your weight is distributed. 10lbs would look really different on people with varying heights. At some point before I got pregnant, I dropped to 135lbs and looked like I was suffering in life. Lol. At that point I made a decision to gain 5lbs and maintained my weight at 140. As soon as baby was born, I knew my goal was 140 and nothing less.
