Make It Worthwile

Make it worhwhile

Hubby and I stopped for brunch. It was about 2pm and I had only eaten a Greek yogurt all day. I usually try not to wait until I am hungry before I eat but it had just been a busy day. See, when I get hungry I literally feel different parts of my body shutting down. On the surface I look like I am carrying the burdens of the world but truth is, it is just food. Lol.

We get in and the first thing that catches my eye is everything! The pictures were screaming my name and as I walked by, the meals on guest’s plates were doing a little dance for me… I get the menu and I had to make a very difficult decision to think with my head and not my belly. I pull out my fitness pal app(free app and also has nigerian foods!) and honestly it really sucks to have to do that. It would be so much easier to just look at the names and guess what was best, but like I have found so many times, you can’t judge a food by its name… Nothing is ever good for you just because it sounds like it should be. I scan through options as I check the calorie count. Eventually I decide on a spinach and mushroom omelet with a fruit cup.

Ife on the other hand, grabs the menu, stares at the pictures for a bit then looks at me with a big smile “Doesn’t this strawberry banana French toast look good? I’m having that”. My heart sunk.

When it came out his plate looked like heaven! I felt like I had been cheated. Is this really worth it? I really want that! Oh well, I stole a small piece of his French toast, enjoyed my omelette and loved my fruit cup.

We get into the car and I realize I am actually full. The food is now out of sight but my body is pleased. Truth is Ife could afford to eat the French toast And I probably could have too. It was 880 calories. My goal is 1500/day while his is over 2000 but I decided I did not want to use my calories that way.

It turns out fats and carbs are the foods that give you energy throughout the day while proteins are used to rebuild muscles from exercises. When you don’t eat enough of either, your body starts substituting wrongly and you really don’t want that. So I am not at a point where I count exactly how much of each I take in but I try to take a mental note to ensure I get them in as I use up my calories.

With every decision you make on food, your body pays, irrespective of your motivation.  So for this one body that you get, make it worthwhile.
